Dear Sir Madam
I am the head of a UN Agency in Sudan
I want to offer an opportunity for a Master
Thatcher to work with us in Southern Sudan – building
up local skills in thatching – lots of skills have
been lost over the last 25 years of civil war. It is the
sort of thing that might interest a ‘young and fit’
retiree!!
Conditions can be arduous – but it is
also fantastically interesting if you have the right approach.
Do you think this may appeal to one of your
members?
Best regards

Hello!
I might have contacted you already about thatched
roofs in UK, as we are seriously considering introducing
this kind of roofs here in Eastern Canada.
Would you now be kind enough and forward the
information to your members that we are looking for someone,
or a group of experienced thatchers, who would be willing
to come over and spend a few time with us for a demonstration
project, from cutting the grass up to finishing a prototype
roof.
On the long run, of course, it is we who would
be coming over to learn the trade in apprenticeship. But
what is needed right now is first to convince all concerned
that thatched roofs, presently unkonwn here in Canada, is
a real option.
We have plans already made for a 12m diameter
conic roof for a private residence in one of the Montreal
suburbs. And there are plenty of phragmites all along the
Saint-Laurence river. But nobody here knows how to cut the
reeds, to process them and put them on a roof.
If any among your members show some interest
in this venture, we would be most willing to start negotiating
the feasibility of the project, hopefully for this coming
Fall 2006.
Thank you very much for your anticipated collaboration!

I am the UK agent for a farm in South Africa that grows and
is looking to distribute Cape Thatching Reed (Thamnochortus
insignis) directly to thatchers in Europe. The farm is in
the Albertinia area of the Western Cape. This area is renown
for the quality of reed that is used for the refurbishment
of historical monuments as far back as 1920 when Groot Constantia
was reroofed after a fire.
Would you be interested in sourcing thatch from this area,
if so, I could supply you with prices etc.
P.S. Could you kindly reply to this e-mail address mcamp999@aol.com
